Flu Season

Each day, about 55 million students and 7 million staff attend the more than 130,000 public and private schools in the United States. Keeping illnesses from spreading is a hard fought battle.  Being one of those Staff and working in Special Education, we fight even harder!

Most experts believe that flu viruses spread mainly by tiny droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby. Less often, a person might get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes.
During this time, take the following actions to prevent the spread of the flu:
  • Sanitize your hands
  • Cover your  nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing
  • Limit your contact with others- Stay home from school and work
  • Frequently disinfect areas that may be contaminated
We Clorox wipe everything and keep a spray bottle of Bleach water to wash everything down after school We make a new batch each day!
Disinfecting: Ratio: 1/4 (minimum) to 3/4 (maximum) cup of bleach to 1 gallon of cool water or 1 table- spoon (minimum) to 3 table- spoons (maximum) of bleach to 1 quart of water
In Iowa, six long-term care influenza outbreaks were reported with onset in week nine. Twenty-five schools reported at least 10 percent absenteeism due to illness. Six influenza deaths were reported, including the first pediatric death of the season.
